This page describes how to view, refine and manage your results from a One Search.
To browse your results and select documents to view, follow these steps:
You may also refine, save and share your results. The following topics correspond to the screen print below:

If you choose, you may click Add/Remove to select the combination of information sources you wish to search. In the Sources pop-up window, you may show or hide database descriptions either one-by-one by clicking the "i" info icon or clicking the Show/Hide All Descriptions links. Click Select All to choose all the information sources shown. The Wait Time bar at the bottom of the window will shorten or lengthen as you remove or add sources, indicating how long the search will take. When you have finished making your selections, click OK
| Note: The more sources you select, the longer you will wait for results. Also note that selecting "Gale Resources" searches all Gale products to which your library subscribes. |
In the search input box, you'll find your original search term(s) you entered on the One Search page. You may also use this box to enter a new search. You may enter one or more words (including logical operators) and then click the Search button.
You can determine how results will be organized and select the maximum number of results by clicking Search Options. In the Search Options pop-up window, you can choose to have results grouped first by source, then by category. You may also select the maximum number of results available for each search. The maximum total number of results is divided equally between the information sources you selected. Thus, if you select 100 max total results, and you have five content sources, each source provides up to 20 results.
The map view offers a three-dimensional visual representation of your search results. Results are grouped into categories, which are displayed as either circles or squares, depending on the layout you selected. A shape within a shape corresponds to a subcategory.
Larger category shapes contain more results. Click on any category shape to explore its contents. This will "zoom in" on that shape and display the details in the right-hand pane (refer to #6 below). The document icons show you how many articles were found in that category. Hovering the mouse over a document icon displays brief publication information in a pop-up window (the ranking shown corresponds to the document's position in the list in the right-hand pane). Refer to the screen print below for an example. Click Zoom Back to "zoom out" one level. Or you can click on the visible part of another shape to view its contents.
Click Expand View to enlarge the Map View pane (this will hide the right-hand pane of results); click Split View to return the pane to its original size.

Results are grouped into topics or categories. The outline view offers a text-based listing of categories, along with the number of results found shown in parentheses (refer to the screen image below for an example).

A plus sign (+) icon indicates a category which contains subcategories. Clicking a plus icon reveals the subcategories within that broader category and causes the plus icon to become a minus sign (-) icon. Clicking a minus icon hides the lower level categories. Click Expand Outline to "open" all categories that have a plus sign. Click Collapse Outline to "close" expanded categories and restore the outline to its original view. Selecting a category or a subcategory displays search results in the right-hand pane (refer to #6 below).
You can filter your existing results to include keyword(s) you enter in the by keyword box. Checking the Exclude box will display only results that do not have the keyword(s) you entered (this will reduce the number of your results).
You can set additional limiters on your results by using the date "slider," excluding specific information sources, and/or including only a specific domain.
By date: The slider bar allows you to filter results by publication date. If you move the slider bar to the right, more recent information is displayed.
By source: The drop-down list allows you to specify which source's content is displayed. For example, selecting Yahoo! shows only content received from the Yahoo! search engine.
By domain: The drop-down list allows you to specify the type of domain from where the content is obtained. For example, selecting "Commercial" shows content obtained from sites with .com in the domain.
The map view can display results in circles or squares. Select the shape you want to use for the Layout. The Color selection lets you choose a black background or a white background.
Click the Hide Tools button to remove these options from the display. Click Show Tools to reveal them again.
5. Navigating and Exporting Your Results
When viewing your results in the right-hand pane (refer to #6 below), you can page through the results. Click < or > to page through the results, one page at a time. Or click << or >> to jump to the first or last page of results, respectively. Or click Show All.
You can also select the amount of information shown for each source: you can choose from Less, Medium and More detail
Click Expand View to enlarge the right-hand results list pane (this will hide the Map View); click Split View to return the pane to its original size.
Clicking Export opens the Export pop-up window, allowing you to export your results in one of various formats, depending on how you want to use the data later. For example, you can save your results as a HTML page, as HTML formatted as bibliographic citations, as a text or an XML file for use with EndNote, and as an RSS feed, among others. Select from the drop-down list and then click Export. Depending upon your browser and your browser settings, either a "Save As" dialogue box will appear and allow you to name and save the file anywhere on your computer, or the file will be sent to your desktop. After you've completed your export, you can import the file into your selected display application, such as RefWorks, EndNote, and so on.
6. Link to Documents from the Right-Hand Pane
Click a text link in this pane to open in a new window the full article in its native application or database.
