One Search cross-searches the Gale products to which your library subscribes (including the PowerSearch databases you have selected from the Database Menu), along with any available third-party databases from other publishers that are distributed by Gale, and select public free and fee-based websites. One Search maps your results into a graphical display arranged into categories. You can drill down (or "zoom") into these categories, allowing you to quickly and efficiently find results that are more specific or more focused to what you are looking for. You'll also be able to filter, export and share your results.
Here's how to perform a One Search:
The Selected Sources line shows how many sources the system will search out of the total possible. Click the Add/Remove link to select or de-select sources from the Sources pop-up window. Click Select All, or click on individual check boxes. Sources that are checked will be searched.
Click an info circle icon to view a description of a source, or click Show All Descriptions in the upper right corner of the window to display all.
Note that selecting "Gale Resources" searches all Gale products to which your library subscribes.
The more sources you select the more time it takes to retrieve and organize your results. The Wait Time bar at the bottom of the window will shorten or lengthen as you remove or add sources.
Click the OK button when you have finished making your selections. Directly above the search input box you will find a summary listing of the sources you have selected. Remember that "Gale Resources" may in fact refer to numerous products, depending on your library's subscription.
You will also be able to select sources when viewing the One Search results page.
Clicking the Search Options link (located to the right of the Search button) lets you determine how results are to be grouped and to set the total number of results you want displayed.
In the Search Options pop-up window, if you want your results to be organized by source first and then by category, click to place a check mark in the Group Results by Source box. The Maximum Total Number of Results radio button options let you pick 100, 200 or 300 total results to be displayed. The maximum total number of results is divided equally between the information sources you selected. Thus, if you select 100 max total results, and you have five content sources, each source provides up to 20 results. Click OK when you have finished setting options.
You will also be able to set these options when viewing the One Search results page.
Your One Search results will be displayed, with the map view in the left-hand pane and individual results from the selected category in the right-hand pane.
When you have found an item of interest on the results map, you can select an individual document and the system will open the selected product or website in a new browser window and display the content of the document.
