Clicking on a document title from either the search results list or from your Marked Items list takes you to the document display page.
On the document display page you'll find information about the document, as well as the complete text of the document, be it a magazine or newspaper article, reference essay, an abstract, etc. The document display page is also used for multimedia files, when multimedia content is available in the Gale collection you are searching. For entries spanning more than one page, use your browser's scroll bar to view all the text and any images associated with the document. Some documents may have Table of Contents sections that make it easy to jump directly to the information you want by clicking a hyperlinked section name.
You may see your search terms highlighted wherever they appear within the document, depending on the type of search used and your session preferences.
When viewing an article, you'll find within the text of the article and to the right the page number corresponding to how the article appeared in print (if available). Next to the page number is a Top of Article link for easy navigation back to the beginning of the document. In some documents, pagination is not used; rather you link to different entries using the entry's name or heading.
Images embedded within the article may have a View PDF link. Clicking this link will display the original print page that contains the image.
When viewing a Books document originally from Gale Virtual Reference Library, you may come across articles that include one or more sidebars (notes in the margin). The sidebar material is reproduced within the article text in a section labeled "Sidebar" and highlighted in a contrasting color. Click the Hide link to shrink the sidebar (click Show to display it again).
At the bottom of the document you'll find the Gale Document Number, which is a unique code to identify the specific document you are currently viewing (for example, 3401801732).
Above the text of the document, you'll find the document's title, author, source (publication title) and document type. Clicking on an author name (shown on the Author(s) line) performs an Advanced Search against the author (AU) index and displays all documents written by or about that author. Clicking the publication title (shown on the Source line) takes you to the About this Publication page.
Click the Bookmark this Document link to open a new window that gives you options to for saving this document (see also "Marking and Saving the Current Document" below).
When viewing a citation-only or abstract-only document, you may find a link to the full-text version of the article. Clicking this link will open a new browser window and connect you to a third-party online archive and/or digital document provider (such as ScienceDirect or SpringerLink). This link (which uses the Digital Object Identifier or DOI system) is not available for all citations and abstracts.
When viewing a Books document originally from Gale Virtual Reference Library, you'll find the eBook Links. These links allow you to navigate the work itself. You can jump directly to the eTable of Contents, and if available for the current eBook, to the eBook Index and List of Illustrations.
For certain eBooks, you will find a hyperlinked publisher logo on the copyright line which will link you to the publisher's Web site.
Depending on your library's setup, a Library Links may display, which provide ways you can find this document in its original publication form at your library, or via a loan from another library, or by linking to other third-party resources. If made available by your library, you may find links to check your library's or another library's holdings, request an interlibrary loan, and/or link to one or more OpenURL/SFX services.
In the Tools box, found to the right of the document information lines, you'll find handy features for printing, e-mailing, citing, etc. the document you are viewing.
Use the breadcrumb trail to return to your results list or the search page where you can revise your search. You can also return to your results list by clicking the Back to Results link. To move to other documents from your results list directly from this document display page, use the links centered above the document title (and also available at the bottom of the page) to go to the Previous or Next document. Or you can click a document number and go directly to that document.
Note that these links do not appear when you are displaying a document from your Marked Items list or via a Bookmark link.
Under the tabs and to the left of the Previous page link, you'll find a Mark box:
. Click on the box to add the document to your Marked Items list so that you can easily return to this document at any time during your current session. A document that you have previously added to your Marked Items list will show a check mark in the checkbox.
You can also save the document for future access after you've ended your current session by clicking the Bookmark icon on the toolbar.
Often you will find links to other, related documents by scrolling toward the bottom of the page.
