Search Alerts and RSS Feeds

You can request notification when new content is added to the database that matches your search criteria. You may choose to have the system check for new content on a daily, weekly or monthly basis and send you an e-mail message in html format when updates are found. Or you may subscribe to an RSS feed provided by Gale and have content delivered directly to you.

Note: You must be a registered Gale user in order to create and manage search alerts and RSS feed requests.

The remainder of this page explains the following tasks:

  1. Requesting an E-mail Search Alert
  2. Managing your Search Alerts
  3. Subscribing to an RSS Feed
  4. Displaying RSS Feeds on the Home Page
  5. Managing Your Home Page RSS Feeds
  6. Setting up an RSS Feed for a Periodical

1. Requesting an E-mail Search Alert

Here's how to receive a search alert via e-mail:

  1. Perform a search using any of the search types to search for the information for which you want to receive alerts; you may use any type of search criteria, including search limiters
  2. On the Search Results page, click the Search Alert/RSS Feed Search Alert/RSS Feed tool
  3. If you have not already signed in to your Gale user account, you will be prompted to do so now (view complete sign-in instructions here).
  4. Your e-mail address will appear in the Mail to field (only one e-mail address is allowed)
  5. Use the default Alert Name or enter your own text
  6. Select the Frequency in which you want the system to check for new content based on your search criteria: Daily, Weekly or Monthly
  7. Click the Save button to submit your request (clicking Cancel will close the window and cancel this request)

You will be sent an e-mail message to confirm that your request has been received. Then the system will check for new content based on the frequency you selected. The alert e-mail will contain individual links up to the first 20 new content items plus a link to the full results set. There will also be a link to the Dashboard.

All e-mails you receive will contain a link allowing you to opt out of (unsubscribe from) the alert if you no longer wish to receive future alerts.
