Gale Directory of Publications and Broadcast Media (GDPBM)

The Gale Directory of Publications and Broadcast Media (GDPBM) has been the definitive media source since its inception in 1869. Formerly the Ayer Directory of Publications, GDPBM has grown with U.S., Canadian, and international media, and increased its scope to include the most current communication technologies. This premier media eDirectory contains listings for radio and television stations and cable companies. Print media entries provide address; phone, fax numbers, and e-mail addresses; key personnel, including feature editors; and much more. Broadcast media entries provide address; phone, fax, and e-mail addresses; key personnel; owner information; hours of operation; networks carried and more.

The remainder of this page is divided into the following sections:

Section 1: Scope

Gale Directory of Publications and Broadcast Media (GDPBM) covers approximately 59,000 newspapers, magazines, journals, and other periodicals, as well as radio, television, and cable stations and systems. GDPBM covers the whole media picture -- ad rates, circulation statistics, local programming, names of key personnel, and other useful, accurate information.

The following categories of publications are excluded from GDPBM's coverage of the U.S., Canadian, and international print and broadcast arenas:

Section 2: Method of Compilation

Information provided in GDPBM is obtained primarily through research of publication and publisher websites and responses from organizations listed. Some clarification and verification of data is obtained through telephone calls. Other published sources are used to verify some information, such as the audited circulation data in publication listings.

Listings that cannot be located through web research, email or subsequent attempts at telephone followup; these entries are noted as "Unable to locate." Efforts to clarify the status of such nonrespondents are ongoing.

Section 3: What You'll Find in a GDPBM Entry and Searchable Fields

Gale Directory of Publications and Broadcast Media (GDPBM) provides detailed information on publications and broadcasting stations, including newspapers, magazines, journals, radio stations, television stations, and cable systems. The main method used to store entries is by the name of the publication or the call letters and frequency/channel or cable company name; however, there many ways to find entries, including by Keyword, or by some other specific field of data using Advanced Search (refer to the Corresponding Advanced Search Index(es) column in the table below).

When you search for entries, your search results will show the main fields of data, enough to give you a brief view of the entry. The full entry can be viewed on the entry display page by selecting the entry name from your results list.

Tip: The table below lists the kinds of information you will find in the entries in this eDirectory. Note that not all fields are present in every entry.

The Corresponding Advanced Search Index(es) column lists which Advanced Search index to use to search that field.

Note that there are two tables listed below: one for publication listings and the other for broadcast station listings.
