Section 1: Scope

Business Rankings Annual is published in response to the number of requests librarians receive about ranking information. To provide quick answers to questions in the most frequently requested subject areas, Gale has researched and compiled nearly thousands of relevant and timely rankings. The "top ten" from each of these rankings appears in this eDirectory.

Section 2: Method of Compilation

The rankings have been researched and gathered from online and print sources. The lists that have been selected are those most in demand by business people, librarians, students, and the public.

Section 3: What You'll Find in a Business Rankings Entry and Searchable Fields

Business Rankings Annual provides rankings of companies, people and products culled from periodicals, newspapers, financial services, directories, statistical annuals and other printed material. The main method used to store entries is by name of the ranking (such as, "Largest Accounting Firms in the Southeastern U.S." or "The Year’s Best Business Globalization Books"); however, there many ways to find entries, including by Keyword, or by some other specific field of data using Advanced Search (refer to the Corresponding Advanced Search Index(es) column in the table below).

When you search for entries, your search results will show the main fields of data, enough to give you a brief view of the profiled entity. The full entry can be viewed on the entry display page by selecting the entry name from your results list.

Tip: The table below lists the kinds of information you will find in the entries in this eDirectory. Note that not all fields are present in every entry.

The Corresponding Advanced Search Index(es) column lists which Advanced Search index to use to search that field.
